Success!

Here are a few of SWAC’s success stories (please note all names have been changed)

Mr and Mrs B successfully adopted two brothers, Daniel and Peter, aged 5 and 3 years. The boys were placed with their new family in November 2000 and have settled in really well. In fact, the B’s have now been re-approved to adopt a little girl to complete their family.

Ms P, a single adopter, successfully adopted Ben, aged 4 in February 2002. Ben has considerable special needs and Ms P can give him the undivided care and attention he needs.

Jade, Kylie and Sophie, 3 little girls from t aged 7, 4 and 1 were successfully placed in August 2002 with the H’s and have settled in happily with their new family.

In January 2005, world renowned Clinical Psychologist, Professor Dan Hughes, visited the SWAC area from Maine, USA, to give 3 days’ of seminars to both adopters registered with SWAC and staff around the region. His talks gave delegates an invaluable insight into the behaviour of children in care and were warmly received. It is hoped that these seminars will be repeated in the future.

Recently, adopters have been invited twice a year to attend an Adoption Exchange - an afternoon event at which they have a unique opportunity to meet with social workers representing the children. To date, three Exchanges have taken place with an average of 6 children per event who have found adoptive homes. This includes a sibling group of three children, and a sibling group of two older children.
